I’ve tried my keychain camera on my rockets. Now it was time to try it on an airplane. Unfortunately it was windy so flying steady wasn’t possible. Nonetheless, I think the video came out nice. As you can see in the video I was lucky as the flight could have been short lived. It didn’t look that close from the ground.

I wrote a super simple application to write out the date and time TAG.txt file to the micro SD card for the Key Chain (keychain) camera. I saw several formats and tried many and finally found one that works. My camera takes the following format in a file called TAG.txt. [date] 2010/05/25 23:42:47 The program requires Microsoft .NET framework. Download from: popularrc.com After running the program from the root of your memory card, move the card to your camera and start it up right away to set the date and time. There you go. If you want the source, let me know.
Recorded with a keychain spy camera from eBay ( stores.ebay.com and look for the camera that looks like a car alarm remote). The camera stores the video in 720×480 resolution, but it records in 640×480, so I resized the video back to 640×480 before uploading it.
My Harbor Freight Wild Hawk plane with an eBay keychain camera attached. Wild Hawk has been converted to a brushless setup, with a weak park-jet motor running a 2-cell LiPo. 6×4 APC prop. Camera is a 720×480 full 30FPS keychain “spy” camera purcased off eBay. Initially I was looking for a more stable platform for the camera after trying it on a couple of park jets. This is more stable, but the day did not cooperate. Quite a windy day, and also I like to screw around too much so straight and level isn’t really my style. It was fun anyway.
How to change the date and time on your chewing gum spy camera. This may also work for other spy cameras too. This is what you have to do. In the root directory make a text document called TAG In that document write this [date] 2010/09/04 23:14:00= Replace date and time with the real date and time. Turn camera on, turn camera off. Turn camera on an record. The next time you turn the camera off and on again it will return to default settings so you have to make another TAG folder again if you want the current date again.
